marqu\u00e9 de l\u2019Appenzell a depuis toujours a favoris\u00e9 un habitat compact. La dynastie de n\u00e9gociants des Zellweger a amen\u00e9 au XVIIe si\u00e8cle la prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9 dans le village. Les ruelles \u00e9troites et la densit\u00e9 du centre du village font presque oublier qu\u2019on est en Suisse. Dans un petit village, une maison neuve est rapidement remarqu\u00e9e, en particulier lorsqu\u2019elle remplace une ferme d\u00e9truite par un incendie dans un site b\u00e2ti prot\u00e9g\u00e9 d\u2019importance nationale. Le b\u00e2timent neuf avec son petit appartement \u00e0 louer au rez-de-chauss\u00e9e reprend la granularit\u00e9 du milieu b\u00e2ti environnant, et se dresse avec assurance, tel un solitaire, \u00e0 l\u2019emplacement de l\u2019ancienne ferme. Il constitue d\u00e9sormais \u00e0 nouveau une sorte de \u00ab clef de vo\u00fbte \u00bb \u00e0 la lisi\u00e8re orientale du village.
